District Sport – Transition in 2026Purpose of District Sport
District Sport has played an integral role in the representative school sport pathway, providing opportunities for students to participate, develop skills, and be identified for higher-level competition through a fair and transparent selection process.
As Metropolitan North transitions from separate 10–12 and 13–19 district structures to a combined 10–19 years representative program, the focus is on creating a more equitable, efficient, and inclusive pathway for all students.
This new structure aims to:
- Streamline the nomination and selection process, reducing duplication and ensuring consistency across age groups.
- Enhance fairness and accessibility by aligning opportunities for all students aged 10–19 under a single, unified framework.
- Ensure decision-making reflects QRSS guiding principles - performance-based, evidence-based, fit-for-purpose, transparent, and risk-aware.
- Support sustainable delivery of school sport through collaboration between schools, districts, and regional sport offices.
This evolution represents the next step in strengthening school sport pathways — ensuring every student, regardless of age, background, or school, has the opportunity to participate, perform, and progress through a system that is modern, equitable, and student-focused.
